 Prudential RideLondon – Surrey 100
Sunday 30th July

We are delighted to report that Rob Kelly and Phil Garrett completed this arduous 100 mile treck over the Surrey Hills.  So far Rob has raised a total of £2,250.  His web page remains open until 30th October and if you would like to contribute please go to :

Rob’s wife Jo has been a volunteer with HS Guildford for 5 years and he has seen the amazing support framework we offer to young families having difficult times.  “It’s a fantastic charity” says Rob.



Albury Music Festival     16th July
We were very pleased to be chosen as the charity this year for this festival.  It was a great family event, run by volunteers, providing a wonderful  family friendly afternoon of music and fun.  Special thanks to Festival Organiser Rob Kelly who helped promote Home-Start and will soon be riding the Prudential London-Surrey 100 raising money for us.  (see pic above)

Splat the Rat!


Creative Workshops
Liz Hauck invites you to her creative workshops for anyone wanting to “paint freely”.  She makes the workshops fun and a whole new learning experience and is offering several dates in early July.  Liz kindly donates all the profits from her workshops to us.  See details Painting Abstracts Workshop – Poster
Due to high demand Liz has added 2 more workshops on the 4th & 6th August.

Open Garden and Silent Auction
on Wednesday 7th June
One of our volunteers kindly opened her garden and wildflower meadow and
over 70 visitors enjoyed walking through the meadow, tea with delicious home-make cakes, a raffle and Plant Stall.

The day was sunny and warm – ideal for enjoying the beautiful roses and wildflowers. Over £2,514 was raised to help Home-Start Guildford. Thank you to all  those who worked hard to make the day such a success.

Brighton Marathon 2017
Sunday 9th April 2017
She did it!  Huge congratulations to Jo Pillay who successfully completed this Marathon improving on her previous time despite the hot weather! Well done Jo and thank you from all of us for supporting  HS Guildford.          


Coffee Morning
9th December  2016
One of our wonderful supporters organised a coffee morning at her home. There were delicious cakes made by the WI  and the gathering raised £500 plus Gift Aid.
Many thanks to everyone who made this possible and gave generously.

Christmas Market in aid of Ho-ho-Home-Start!   in Merrow
5th Dec. and 6th Dec.
A big thank you to Louise Gracey (Lots in Pots) and Faith McCarthy ( English Handmade Soaps) who held an annual Christmas Market at Louise’s house and invited us to be their chosen charity.

We appreciate all their hard work organising this festive event and raising over £700 for us.  Our supporters had a great time visiting the stalls and in between enjoyed coffee, home-made soup and cakes. 


Frozen Floral Roadshow at the Mill Theatre, Guildford
24th November. 2016-11-24-22-27-02 Everyone enjoyed our Special Gala Show with Mig Kimpton who demonstrated some fantastic displays with flowers.  Afterwards there were festive nibbles and sparkling drinks.   We raised more than £1,500.  A big thank you to Ruth Jubert for all her hard work making this event such a success.           Lucky Winner!  2016-11-24-22-59-30


Good News –   They did it!

The Prudential RideLondon 100 – Surrey       31st July
A 100 mile challenge from central London around the Surrey Hills took place on Sunday 31st July.  A big thank you to both Hugh Shanks (Chair, on the left) and Simon Brundan for completing this challenging cycle ride and raising much needed funds for us.  Total now in excess of £2,300 which is a brilliant result.Hugh and Simon Cycling for Home-Start

Liz Hauck (left) artist, with Home-Start supporter Ruth Jubert.  Liz has very generously shared the income from sales of her paintings between us and another charity – both organisations helping children in need.  Guests enjoyed viewing her pictures in the setting of her beautiful house and garden.
We are extremely grateful to Liz for her wonderful support of our work.


Edinburgh Marathon – 29th May   Congratulations and thank you to Carol Dunnett for running her first every marathon in 5 hrs 6mins.  She raised £728 for us beating her target.

2016 London Marathon –   24th April
Congratulations to Keith Irvine, the husband of one of our volunteers, who ran this marathon in support of us has raised in excess of £1,500.  Thank you Keith for your wonderful fundraiser.

Charity Golf Day  –  22nd April, 2016
84 golfers played and enjoyed  their round at Effingham Golf Club.   This was followed by a 3 course dinner for 110 people and an auction. We had received very generous prizes and our auctioneer, Chris Mills, made it an entertaining evening.  The team prize went to Gordons Team – see photo below.

During dinner Sam, one of the families we support, courageously told the guests of how she was struggling to cope on her own with her young son and described movingly how her Home-Start volunteer had “brought her back to life”.

Bach to Baby Concert

Bach to Baby  at the Guildhall, Guildford.  A charity concert held in association with HS Guildford. Accordionist Nikolic enthralled the young audience, 20 toddlers, with mums and dads, with his repertoire of thrilling music.  Volunteers served delicious home-made cakes and drinks.

We have held a number of enjoyable and financially successful events which have all helped towards covering our costs.  These events have been attended by The Friends, Volunteers, Staff, Trustees and general supporters.

Guildford Choral at G Live, Guildford, kindly offered us a retiring collection after their Family Carols and IMG_0822Christmas Music Concert on 13th December which was enjoyed by many local families.  We raised over £1,380.  Thank you to Guildford Choral for a lovely concert and inviting us to be their charity for this event.

A successful event with over £1,500 raised.



Congratulations to Our Magnificent
7 riders who all completed the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on Sunday 2nd August.  It started in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then followed a 100 mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning     Prudential Cycle Race
and very hilly countryside.
We have raised £9,156 so far …..
