Support and friendship for families

Who can Home-Start help?

Home-Start Guildford can offer support to anybody that has at least one child under the age of 5 and lives in the Guildford Borough.

We support families for a variety of reasons:

  • They may be feeling isolated in their community, have no family nearby or be struggling to make friends.
  • They may be finding it hard to cope because of their own or their child’s illness or disability.
  • They may be struggling with the emotional and physical demands of having several young children.

Who can make a referral?

Any person working with a family can refer to Home-Start e.g. Children’s Centre Worker, Health Visitor or Home-School Link Worker;  it is important that the family being referred agrees to the referral.   We prefer people to ask a professional to refer them if possible, however families can make a referral themselves.

How do I refer?

To make a referral, you will need a referral form. Please contact the office on tel. 01483 511181 and we will be happy to email or post one to you. The person that you are referring must know that you are completing the form. Try to include as much information as possible on the referral form, but don’t worry if there are questions that you are not able to answer.  Please telephone us if you wish to discuss the family situation.

We will aim to visit all families within 3 weeks of our receipt of the referral to discuss the support they would like. If you have any questions about how to complete the form, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Family support is governed by the availability and suitability of volunteers. We will always give you guidance as to the current situation regarding volunteer availability.
