‘The Adventures of Petie’

A New Children’s Book from Local Creators

There are some stories that stay with a family for generations – told around the kitchen table, at bedtime, or on long car journeys. The Adventures of Petie is one such story. A much-loved tale, passed down through three generations, it has finally been brought to life in a beautifully illustrated children’s book.

Petie is the central character in a new children’s illustrated book written by local author Sarah Hammond and brought to life through the illustrations of local artist Peter McNiven.

Petie is a fun-loving little boy with a wonderful imagination and a real sense of adventure. He loves friendship, animals, mischief and exploring, but perhaps his greatest quality of all is his kindness. The first book follows Petie as he sets about building his very own den in the woodland. What begins as a simple idea soon develops into an adventure filled with fun, friendship, discoveries and a little bit of mischief along the way.

Petie’s adventures are only just beginning…

The book has a particularly lovely local connection; with Sarah and Peter both being well known in the Guildford community. It is a story created locally, illustrated locally and designed to capture the imagination of children while celebrating some timeless qualities – kindness, friendship, curiosity and adventure.

The book costs £9.99 and ALL proceeds are being kindly donated to Home-Start Guildford.

It can be purchased locally at Shere Pottage or in store and online via Paper Moon, Guildford.

Excitingly Sarah will also be at Paper Moon on Saturday 31st October to read her Petie stories during several lunchtime sessions, more info to follow.

Home-Start Guildford are so grateful to Sarah and Peter for their generosity. The book will provide much needed funds to support their work and it will also help increase the awareness of the work carried out by the amazing team of volunteers at Home-Start Guildford. Their caring volunteers and family-focused services help parents build confidence, strengthen relationships, and create happier, more secure homes for their children. They support parents and their children through challenging times such as isolation, domestic abuse, financial crisis, and mental health struggles. And have fun too!
